In this panel discussion, we will hear from professionals from a variety of backgrounds (legal, governmental, and journalism), who are all using data to better understand and address the growing instances of both eviction and “equity theft” in the Atlanta area. “Equity theft” is a type of real estate fraud that occurs when someone tries to steal the equity a homeowner has built up in their home. Join us, as we get a glimpse of the data difficulties and data solutions related to housing inequity in our community.
Panelists:
Sarah Stein, Community and Economic Development (CED) Advisor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, who together with the Atlanta Regional Commission, helped to develop the Atlanta Region Eviction Tracker
Lindsey Siegel, Director of Housing Advocacy at Atlanta Legal Aid, who offers free civil legal aid to low-income people across metro Atlanta
Stephannie Stokes, Housing and Inequality Journalist at WABE, Atlanta’s NPR News Station, who has reported extensively on these issues
Moderator:
Ashley Rockell, Public Interest Data Literacy (PIDLit) Fellow, Georgia State University Library
